The Breakers defines Florida opulence

Breakers-drivewayApplause for tycoon Henry Flagler who created a hotel in Palm Beach, Florida, to accommodate elite travelers on his railway.  The Palm Beach Inn, the first incarnation of The Breakers opened in 1896.

Despite some fires and rebuilds, the final hotel has earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places.

Even if you do not spend the night in one of its guest rooms or suites, or play a round of golf on either of its two championship courses, do stop by the Seafood Bar for one of the most excellent pina coladas I have ever had.
